Oklahoma City truancy officer cracks down on school skippers

Updated:
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ A truancy officer who covers McCurtain, Choctaw and Pushmataha counties in southeast Oklahoma is cracking down on parents whose children don't make it to class.

Records show officer Bob Wright issues more truancy fines per capita than any other district in the state.

One woman with three daughters is facing nearly $5,000 in fines because of truancy counts filed against her daughters. Shawna Calvillo was fined $1,500 dollars for nine counts of truancy against her 14-year-old daughter. Her two other daughters -- ages 15 and 16 -- were fined 1,700 each and must pay 20 dollars a month.

Wright -- a veteran educator and a certified law officer -- says he's zealous about children getting an education and wants to see kids better themselves.
