Building fire in Broken Arrow destroys a warehouse

Firefighters in Broken Arrow are keeping tabs on a burned out warehouse to make sure flames don't flare up again.

The fire Tuesday afternoon sent thick black smoke into the air near 71st and 145th East Avenue. The fire posed quite a challenge for firefighters. They were dealing with flammable liquids inside, and it was hard to get to the flames.

No one was hurt, but businesses in the area were evacuated as a precaution.

Officials believe a liquid called Hexane spilled and ignited. Eyewitness Max Chrisman: "It kind of sounded like some shotguns, kind of muffled, not quite open, but muffled shotguns. Quite a few of them in succession."

Three businesses in the warehouse were destroyed.

Fire officials say a spilled chemical called Hexane fueled the fire. It's made from crude oil and is extremely toxic and highly flammable.

Hexane is commonly used in cleaners and solvents.
