State Senate committee approves $3,000 raises for teachers

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- A state Senate committee approved a bill Monday that would raise teacher pay by $3,000 a year.

The measure, by Senators Susan Paddack and Stratton Taylor, also would double over two years the $5,000 bonus that teachers receive for national board certification.

The measure was approved on a 24-0 vote in the state Senate Education Committee.

The bill was amended to increase by 50 cents an hour the pay of education support personnel.
