OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- State troopers continue to investigate a deadly charter bus crash that killed two people and left several injured on Interstate 35 near Pauls Valley.
The bus driver, Miguel Esquada, said he was braking to avoid colliding with a vehicle that had moved in front of him when the bus overturned. The vehicle rolled one-and-a-quarter times, coming to rest on its side.
The impact threw Esquada, of Fort Worth, Texas, and others out of the bus on Saturday.
8-year-old Jay Elizondo, of Chicago, was thrown through a window and the bus fell on top of him. He was alive when firefighters tried to free him but later died. 28-year-old Rochio Jara was pronounced dead at the scene.
Fifty-six-year-old Alicia Patricio, of Kansas City, Kansas, was taken to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City, where she's listed in serious condition.
56-year-old Mayra Zarazua, also of Kansas City, Kansas, was listed in good condition at OU Medical Center.
Pastor Perla Martinez Goody -- served as an interpreter for some of the passengers -- says the passengers were taken to the wrecked bus to pick up their luggage.
