Parents concerned after Stilwell 3rd grader threatens students with a knife

Updated:
Fear at a school in an Adair County community has some parents afraid for their children's safety. This after those students came home with stories about another student holding a knife to a classmate's throat.

The incident happened earlier this month at an elementary school in Stilwell. Parents say a 3rd grader with a history of behavior problems threatened two students with a pocket knife. School administrators confiscated two pocket knives from the child's desk.

The parents' biggest concern is the child has been allowed to stay in school. Heather Hatchett has filed a police report and charges with the Adair County District Attorney after her third grader Micah told her he was the one with a knife across his throat. "Came up behind him, held a knife to his throat and said what's the matter Micha? Are you scared? It's just a little knife. And I asked Micah what happened at school and he just broke down crying."

The school referred us to their attorney, who said things at the school are continuing normally and the school did what it was legally obligated to do.
