Tulsa's Community Action Project is celebrating a big success. They remodeled a rundown apartment complex and turned it into clean, affordable housing.
First District Congressman John Sullivan and Tulsa Mayor Bill LaFortune were on hand for Tuesday's dedication of the newly renovated Brightwaters Apartments at 2202 South Phoenix Avenue.
The Community Action project, with help from banks and the government, bought the old complex and cleaned it up. Residents got new paint, working smoke alarms and most importantly, a feeling of security.
Residency Action president Stacy McCarrell: "The main thing I'm really concerned with is the safety of our residents and safety of our home and our community has come together to help ensure that we all have a safe house to live."
Residents say the project is proof that great things can happen when a community pulls together.
