Oklahoma Senator Tom Coburn of Muskogee is challenging an ethics committee ruling that directs him to close his medical practice by September 30th.
Coburn has released an open letter to Oklahomans. In it, he writes he promised voters when he was a candidate he wouldn't lose touch with their everyday needs and concerns.
He says one way to do that was to continue seeing patients in his medical practice on a not-for-profit basis. It's similar to what he did as a 2nd district Congressman.
Two newspapers, the Tulsa World and The Oklahoman have urged Coburn to drop the fight, and become a full-time senator.
