Sooner ruled academically ineligible for NCAA tournament

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) _ Oklahoma pitcher Garrett Patterson has been ruled academically ineligible.

OU officials announced yesterday Patterson won't be able to participate in the upcoming NCAA baseball tournament as a result.

The McAlester junior appeared in 17 games with nine starts. He was 6-and-3 with a 3.59 earned run average. In 62 and two-third innings, the lefthander struck out 73 and walked 42.

The Sooners are a Number Three seed in the regional at Oxford, Mississippi.

They will play second-seeded Southern Mississippi in the first round Friday afternoon.
