Eufaula park complex being sold

EUFAULA, Okla. (AP) -- The city of Eufaula will sell an amphitheater and amusement park that closed seven years ago after an investigation into its financing sent the town's industrial authority into bankruptcy and then-Mayor Joe Johnson to prison.

The Mega Star complex is being sold to Don Nichols of McAlester for $268,000 after investors lost about $5-million on the project.

Nichols says the complex is being cleaned up and he hopes to reopen the arcade building and miniature golf course this summer. He says the amphitheater may open later this year.

Johnson was sentenced to three years in prison for embezzling money from the project and was convicted on unrelated charges that he owned a rural water company sold to the city.
