Four people are injured in an early Friday morning traffic accident on I-244

Updated:
Four people are hospitalized following a head on collision in Tulsa. It happened about 2:30 AM Friday on Interstate-244 near Utica.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says the driver of a red car was going eastbound in the westbound lanes of I-244 and hit a westbound car. Four people were pinned until Tulsa Fire crews could get them out. They are hospitalized, but their conditions have not been released. The accident shut down the highway while crews worked to clean up debris.

Another driver in a pickup was following the red car. He told OHP troopers he was also going the wrong way. When he realized it, he tried to get the other driver to stop, but it was too late. He was arrested on suspicion of DUI.

Officials believe alcohol played a role in the accident.
