Tulsa city council approves new ethics rules

Updated:
The Tulsa city council has passed an ethics ordinance.

It requires city officials and board members to step out of debates and votes, in which they might have a personal stake. The vote came after more than an hour of debate on what "personal interest" should mean.

The ethics ordinance was drafted in part to make sure zoning matters are not handled by people who stand to benefit from the decision.
