Machinists approve contract at Mid-Western Aircraft

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) _ Mid-Western Aircraft Systems says it's happy that machinists have agreed to a contract.

Machinists at the former Boeing plant in Wichita, Kansas, today approved a five-year deal that includes a ten percent salary cut for more than four-thousand workers. Boeing also sold its facilities in Tulsa and McAlester.

The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers says 89 percent of votes were in favor of the contract.

A spokesman for Mid-Western Aircraft, Fred Solis, says the deal is an important step for the company to move forward and position itself to compete in a global marketplace.

Union representative Garland Moore says members approved the contract because it included job offers for most of the 11-hundred workers that Mid-Western Aircraft's parent company had planned to eliminate.
