Heat and tempers are rising in Tulsa

Temperatures are rising and so are violent crimes in Tulsa. The first week of summer has authorities investigating at least six violent deaths.

Experts say many things contribute to the stresses of summer and lead to violence from children being home from school to being confined indoors by extreme heat. Tulsa Police and domestic violence experts also hope the public will provide some relief through a long, hot summer.

Missy Iski with Domestic Violence Intervention Services: "I think we need to be more active. I think when we hear something next door we need to be calling the police. I think we need to be asking questions when people or children show up with bruises on their faces. I think it needs to be more something that we as a community are asking questions about and are encouraging people to seek help."

DVIS counselors are available 24-hours a day at 585-3143.
