Holdenville woman found competent to stand trial for murder

A woman who allegedly killed an acquaintance so she could steal her unborn baby has been found mentally competent to stand trial.

39-year-old Effie Goodson is charged with first-degree murder in the December 2003 death of Carolyn Denise Simpson and her unborn child. Prosecutors say Goodson enticed Simpson into her car with the offer of baby clothes and a crib.

Hours later, Goodson went to the Holdenville hospital emergency room, saying she had given birth alongside a rural road. The child was dead.

Simpson's body was found three days later.
