Children with diabetes can often feel left out, because they don't get to enjoy all the activities their friends do. That’s why kids come from all across Oklahoma and other states come to the Diabetics-only Camp in south Tulsa.
They enjoy arts and crafts, swimming and outdoor fun. For many kids, the best part of camp is the new friends they meet, who are just like them. First time camper Mary Beth Barker: "Just being around with all the other people that have diabetes and getting to meet the other people."
Volunteer nurse Shari Fisher: "Many of the kids come from small schools where they're the only kid in the school system with diabetes, and this is normal for them. Everyone is just like them.â€
There are plenty of nurses on duty to check insulin and blood sugar levels.
