Weatherford museum given rock from the moon

WEATHERFORD, Okla. (AP) -- Four former astronauts who are celebrating the 30th anniversary of the joint Apollo-Soyuz space mission were in Weatherford for a special presentation.

NASA Tuesday gave a rock taken from the moon to the Thomas Stafford Space Museum.

Stafford is a Weatherford native and was joined by former astronaut Vance Brand and former Soviet cosmonauts Valeriy Kubasov and Alexie Leonov.

The four were part of the historic 1975 docking of the United States' Apollo and the then-Soviet Union's Soyuz spacecrafts. The fifth member of the two crews was astronaut Deke Slayton who died in 1993.

The rock will be displayed under strict security at the museum named for Stafford.
