Oklahoma City memorial passes fund-raising goal

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Officials with the Oklahoma City National Memorial say a fund-raising drive has raised $7.35-million.

The collections is enough to qualify for matching grants of $5-million each from the state and federal governments to bring the total collected to more than $17.25-million.

Memorial Foundation chairman Frank Hill says the money secures the future of the site. The money will be used to spread a message of anti-violence.

The memorial was dedicated in 2000, five years after Timothy McVeigh exploded a truck-bomb outside the Alfred P- Murrah Federal Buildings, killing 168 people and injuring hundreds more.
