Oklahoma runner dies in Pikes Peak marathon

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) -- An Oklahoma man has died after collapsing while running in the Pikes Peak Marathon during the weekend in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Gary Williams of Norman died Sunday a little more than two miles from the 14,115-foot summit, about four hours after the start of the race.

The race goes up and then down the mountain west of Colorado Springs.

His son Steve says Pikes Peak was Williams' 45th career marathon. He says his father had high blood pressure, but no heart problems, family history of heart trouble or any hint of illness before the race.

Medical officials say it appears Williams suffered a heart attack.
