A new, world class arena will open soon near a Creek County community. The state of the art facility is expected to attract people from all over the country. The arena is located on the Brewster Ranch, southeast of Bristow.
News on 6 anchor Craig Day takes us on a tour.
Debbie Brewster says on an excitement scale of one to ten, she's at a 10++. In fact, everyone at the Brewster Ranch is pretty excited as they get closer to opening a new arena. Deborah Brewster: "Every facility offered something unique and different and we just combined the things we liked in different facilities and left out the things we didn't like and somebody would make a suggestion and we'd say hey that's a good idea."
Those ideas led to the Brewster Ranch Arena. It has nearly 2 acres under one roof, including a 64,000 square foot performance area.
Ranch manager Joe Fairchild: "these are our stock pens; they're set up to hold one thousand head of cattle." There will also be practice areas, a couple of hundred horse stalls and dozens of RV pads and hookups for trailers. Inside, the arena will have a restaurant and an upstairs lounge overlooks the arena floor.
For months, the Brewsters have worked to give the facility an authentic look and feel. Deborah Brewster: "we used old tin for our ceilings, old barn wood for the walls."
The facility is expected to draw people from all over the United States. First of all, Oklahoma's central location naturally makes it easy to get to. The facility is located within easy driving distance of two interstates. And just that the arena is located on a working ranch is expected to be a big draw. Clark Brewster: "be engaged in western sports, equine sports, whether that is in the form of cutting competition, with cutting horses, roping, bull riding, or just an event for the family."
Construction on the arena started in the fall of 2003. The first official events will take place in November. Most of the events scheduled for the arena are equestrian, but the Brewsters say it's versatile enough for just about anything, even high school proms. They also plan to host at least a couple of big charity events each year.
