Science school leads state scores on college exam

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- The Oklahoma School of Science and Mathematics recorded the highest average ACT score in the state this year.

School spokeswoman Donna Roberts says the average composite score for 2005 graduates at the school was 31.3 out of a possible 36 points. The state's average score was 20.4. The national average was 20.9.

The school's president, Edna McDuffie Manning, says the school has some of the brightest students from high schools all over the state. Students take rigorous college courses in math, science, humanities and social sciences.

Manning says that makes students at the school particularly well-prepared for standardized tests like the ACT and the SAT.
