OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Attorney General Drew Edmondson says the state Scenic Rivers Commission has authority to ban or restrict alcohol on rivers and streams.

The commission recently created a subcommittee to examine alcohol-related problems on rivers and streams under its control. Commission administrator Julian Fite asked Edmondson for the opinion on whether alcohol could be banned.

Edmondson says the commission can adopt a ban under the implied police powers act of the Scenic Rivers Act.
