Oklahoma Students Do Well On S A T

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Oklahoma high school students taking the SAT college entrance exams improved their average score this year and remain above the national average.

The average SAT score in Oklahoma was 576 in reading and 574 in math. The reading score is six points higher than last year and the math score is up eleven points.

The national averages are 503 in reading and 518 in math.

Education officials say most Oklahoman students take the rival ACT and only 7 percent took the SAT. Officials say the low number tends to skew Oklahoma's scores higher because most students taking the SAT are applying to select colleges and scholarship programs.
