ENID, Okla. (AP) -- Great Lakes Airlines has stopped flying out of airports in Enid and Ponca City.

Thursday was the final day of service from the airline because of the termination of a subsidy from the Federal Aviation Administration.

At Enid's Woodring Regional Airport, six Transportation Security Administration employees and three employees of Great Lakes have lost their jobs.

The federal government subsidizes carriers to provide air service to places like Enid and Ponca City that otherwise would not have commercial air service. Without the subsidy, airline officials say it simply isn't economically feasible for an airline to provide service.

Great Lakes provided air service from Enid and Ponca City to Denver.
