UAB suspends McSwain for Oklahoma game

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) _ Defensive end Larry McSwain didn't play for Alabama-Birmingham in it's season opener against Oklahoma.

UAB officials announced that the Conference USA preseason defensive player of the year was suspended for a violation of team rules.

UAB said in a statement that McSwain, the team's sack leader last season, didn't make the trip from Alabama to Norman.

McSwain had 13 sacks in 2004 and four last season.
