Postal Service Plans To Unveil Oklahoma Stamp

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Oklahoma's official centennial stamp will be unveiled this week in Oklahoma City, but good luck trying to find out what's on it.

The US Postal Service is keeping the design under wraps, and only a handful of people know what it looks like.

Perkins artist Mike Larson was selected to design the stamp. The self-described Indian artist describes some of his work as -- quote -- "psychic landscapes."

A member of the Oklahoma Centennial Commission who has seen the design says it should take away the image of a dry and dusty Oklahoma. Events Chairman Lee Allan Smith says the stamp doesn't have a cowboy or Indian, it's not a person and it's not a specific location in Oklahoma.

The stamp will be unveiled to the public Friday at the National Cowboy Hall of Fame and Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City.
