NORMAN, Okla. (AP) _ The Oklahoma womens basketball team is ranked Number Three in the Athlon Sports pre-season poll.

The ranking is three spots higher than the Number 6 pre-season spot bestowed by Lindys.

The Athlon pre-season ranking is the highest on record for OU. The Sooners were fourth in the 2001-2002 Pre-season Associated Press Poll. The Sooners were also ranked fifth in the USA Today/Coaches Pre-season Poll the same season.

The top-10 ranking comes on the heels of the 2005-2006 season, which was one of the most successful in OU history. Last season the Sooners posted a 31-and-5 record, which included a 19-and-0 run through Big 12 play and a Sweet 16 appearance.

OU opens its season on November 12th against DePaul.
