OSBI Investigation Finished In Mcalester

McALESTER, Okla. (AP) -- Pittsburg County District Attorney Jim Bob Miller says it will be at least two weeks until he determines whether criminal charges are warranted in the city of McAlester's use of $800,000 earmarked for economic development.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation has finished a report on the bond expenditures, but Miller a two-week trial docket will prevent him from studying it.

Former city officials in 2004 transferred $618,000 into the city's general fund and asked a bank to withhold the remaining $182,000 to make payments on unrelated bonds.

State law requires that bond money be spent only for the purpose for which it was borrowed.
