Voting Underway To Decide NSU's New Mascot

Updated:
NSU's football team played its last homecoming as the Redmen in Tahlequah Saturday afternoon.

That is because the school is changing its mascot.

NSU has been the home of the Redmen for 82 years, but they're getting rid of that name, because many Native Americans find it offensive.

The six finalists are Thunderhawks, Thunderbirds, Riverhawks, Riverwolves, War Eagles and Wolves.

Students cast their ballots for a new mascot at Saturday's game.

Students, alumni, faculty, staff, and members of the community will also be able to designate their favorite finalist on the school's website, www.nsuok.edu/mascot.
