Norman, Stillwater To Receive Arts Grants

WASHINGTON, D.C. (AP) -- The National Endowment for the Arts announces that two Oklahoma library systems will receive grants to participate in a national reading program.

Stillwater Public Library and the Pioneer Library System in Norman were among 72 systems selected as grant recipients for the Big Read, a new national NEA program.

The program is designed to encourage reading by asking communities to come together to read and discuss a book.

The books will be one of eight classic American novels: "Fahrenheit 451" by Ray Bradbury; "My Antionia" by Willa Cather; "The Great Gatsby" by F. Scott Fitzgerald; "A Farewell to Arms" by Ernest Hemingway; "Their Eyes Were Watching God" by Zora Neale Hurtson; "To Kill a Mockingbird" by Harper Lee; "The Grapes of Wrath" by John Steinbeck; or "The Joy Luck Club" by Amy Tan.
