STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) _ Mario Boggan scored 33 points and JamesOn Curry added 24 as Oklahoma State defeated Pittsburg State 84-67 in the Cowboys' exhibition opener on Friday.
In Sean Sutton's first game as head coach, the Cowboys struggled early, trailing by as much as five in the first half.
Oklahoma State picked up momentum late in the first half, finishing on a 13-2 run. Consecutive baskets by junior guard Marcus Dove made it 50-37 with 14:18 remaining in the second.
Boggan, a senior forward starting his second season with the Cowboys, collected 9 rebounds. Curry scored 16 of his points in the second half and was 2-for-7 from behind-the-arc for the game. Dove finished with 11 points.
Oklahoma State surged to a 14-5 lead on consecutive three-point baskets by Boggan and Curry at the 16:13 mark in the first half.
Pittsburg State responded with a 12-0 run, capped by a three by sophomore Carlos Taylor that gave the Gorillas a 26-21 lead with 6:44 remaining.
Oklahoma State led 34-28 at halftime.
