LOS ANGELES (AP) Matthew Knight had 23 points and Brandon Worthy scored 19 to give Loyola Marymount a 68-65 victory over Oral Roberts in the season opener for both schools.
Knight went 10-14 from the field and pulled down 9 rebounds, and Worthy had 7 assists last night.
Ken Tutt of Oral Roberts led all scorers with 26 points, and Caleb Green had 12 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
Tutt made a 3-pointer to give ORU its biggest lead of the game, 44-37 with 16:12 to play in the 2nd half.
Worthy made a bank shot as he fell to the ground to pull Loyola Marymount within 50-49 with 9:17 to play.
Knight then made a layup after a behind the back assist from Adoyah Miller to give the Lions their first lead of the 2nd half, 51-50.
Worthy later used a steal, breakaway and 3 point play to give Loyola Marymount its biggest lead, 64-57, then made a pair of free throws to put the Lions up 66-60 to seal the win.
