Wintry weather isn't stopping one big football game. The Big 12 Championship game is still on, and hundreds of Sooner fans will brave the roads to see OU take on Nebraska in Kansas City Saturday night. News on 6 reporter Ashli Sims has been checking on conditions for the trip.
It's the battle of the Big Reds, OU versus Nebraska, but before you can get to the big game you'll have to battle big snow. Our neighbors in Missouri also took a hit from Jack Frost. But some Sooners fans aren't letting a little snow and ice keep them from the big match-up.
"The sooner wagon waits for no weather," Paige Cold, President of the OU Club of Tulsa said. "I have had a ton of calls, probably about 25 to 30 calls today. And we were full as of yesterday. So there's a lot of people scrambling around to figure out how they're going to get to Kansas City because of the roads."
If you're going to make the drive you should check out the Missouri Department of Transportation website, before you head out. They have a map of the state and conditions of major highways. Right now, it shows I-44 is partly covered, but the closer you get to Kansas City the clearer the roads. Once you're on the road you can find out what's ahead by calling 1-888-ASKMODOT.
Of course, once you make it to Arrowhead Stadium, you still have to deal with temperatures in the teens. But this die-hard sooner fan isn't letting the forecast faze her.
"I think its going to be a fun time. It’s a traditional OU-Nebraska match-up, and we haven’t had that. And so it’s going to be a lot of fun and I think the fans are gonna be excited. And ya'know, what’s a little cold weather," Cole said.
If you don't want to make the drive, there is an OU watch party at the Fox and the Hound on 71st and Garnett.
