Carrie Underwood Wins 3 Times At Billboard Music Awards

Updated:
LAS VEGAS (AP) -- Oklahoman Carrie Underwood walks away with high honors at the 2006 Billboard Music Awards.

The American Idol-turned-country star from Checotah took home awards Monday night for country album and album of the year for her record "Some Hearts."

Underwood also was named female country artist of the year during the two-hour show, which was aired live from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

The Billboard Awards are given to the year's chart-topping artists. Winners are determined by the magazine's year-end chart listings, which are based on record sales and airplay.
