McDonald's Experimenting With Mini-Gyms For Kids

CHICAGO (AP) -- McDonald's is experimenting with mini-gyms in several of its US restaurants, including one in Tulsa.

The spots include electronic dancing games, climbing ropes and stationary bicycles attached to video games.

The burger-and-fries company is often accused by critics of contributing to child obesity. It is tinkering with the mini-gyms as a possible successor to the popular McDonald's PlayPlace, with its ball pits and crawl tubes.

Seven "R gyms" are currently located in Oklahoma, California, Colorado and Illinois. The "R" stands for Ronald McDonald.

More are planned based on what the Oak Brook, Illinois-based chain says has been a positive early response.
