Election Proposed To Annex Picher-Cardin School District

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- State Superintendent Sandy Garrett is calling for an election to annex Picher-Cardin Schools in the Tar Creek area.

The area a former mining community designated by the federal government as a Superfund site for more than two decades.

The election, proposed for February 13th, would let Picher-Cardin voters decide whether to annex their schools to Commerce and Quapaw public schools.

Both Commerce and Quapaw schools already have granted hundreds of student transfers from Picher-Cardin during the past two years.
