Schools To Get Cherokee Nation Money

TULSA, Okla. (AP) -- The Cherokee Nation announced Monday that it will be donating nearly $2.7 million to about 100 schools in northeastern Oklahoma. The money comes from the sale of Cherokee Nation car tags over the last year. Over the past four years the Cherokee Nation has given more than $8 million to area schools.

Under Cherokee Nation law, the tribe gives schools within its jurisdiction 38 percent of the revenues generated by tag sales.

The list of schools to receive the money will be announced on Tuesday.
