Venezuela's Chavez Calls For Protests Against Bush

CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) _ Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez called for protests during President Bush's upcoming trip to Latin America, saying gangland boss Al Capone was a baby compared to officials in the U.S. administration.

Fictional godfather ``Don Vito Corleone is a nursing baby, Al Capone is a nursing baby next to'' them, Chavez said on his radio talk show.

Bush is scheduled to arrive in Brazil on March 8 on the beginning of a Latin American tour that will also take him to Uruguay, Colombia, Guatemala and Mexico.

Chavez called for a ``peaceful march'' to protest Bush's trip.

Chavez, who accuses the United States of plotting a brief coup against him in 2002, frequently criticizes its policies, including the war in Iraq and Washington's history of backing authoritarian governments in Latin America.

The White House has said Bush's trip is aimed at underlining the U.S. government's commitment to the region and advancing democracy.
