Record Number Of Bald Eagles Expected In Oklahoma

TULSA, Okla. (AP) -- A record number of bald eagles are expected to nest in Oklahoma this year.

Alan Jenkins with the Sutton Aviary Center in Bartlesville says a survey of the eagles is still under way and eggs are just beginning to hatch but he expects a large number of eagles.

A record of 55 nesting pairs of eagles were counted in Oklahoma last year.

The eagle remains on the Endangered Species list despite calls for its removal from the list. The US Fish and Wildlife Service is waiting for federal officials to complete plans for managing the bird's habitat after it's taken off the endangered list.
