Police Warn Of Phone Scam

Updated:
NICHOLS HILLS, Okla. (AP) Police in the Oklahoma City suburb of Nichols Hills are warning of a telephone scam in which a caller says money is being raised for bulletproof vests for officers.

Police Chief Richard Mask says several residents have reported getting calls about a fund-raising campaign for the vests and for fingerprint identification kits for children.

Mask says his department is not asking for money for vests although there was a recent fund-raiser for new weapons and night vision goggles.

The chief says none of fund-raising was done by telephone.
