Doctor Charged Amid Drug Allegations

TULSA, Okla. (AP) -- A Tulsa doctor was charged Friday with 76 felony counts for allegedly distributing prescription drugs to patients who didn't need them.

Patrick J. Fahey, 47, was charged with 74 counts of distributing a controlled and dangerous substance, one count of racketeering and one count of Medicaid fraud, Attorney General Drew Edmondson said.

Prosecutors allege Fahey illegally distributed Lortab, OxyContin, Xanax and Adderall out of his clinic, the Patrick J. Fahey Clinic of Sports, Pain and Physical Rehabilitation, P.C.

"I have long been an advocate for medically supervised pain management, but we can not allow our doctors to hand out pills like candy," Edmondson said.

The state also alleges Fahey submitted false claims to Medicaid and Medicare.
