NORMAN, Okla. (AP) -- Former Oklahoma All-American Joe Washington is returning to OU.

Athletic director Joe Castiglione says Washington will be a special assistant to the athletic director and will be executive director of the Varsity "O" Association.

The "O" Association works with student-athletes and provides scholarships to athletes who've completed their eligibility but are still working toward a degree.

Washington was an All-American running back at OU and played on national championship teams in 1974 and '75 and is second on OU's career rushing list.

Castiglione says Washington will start his new job in May.
