Suspect In City’s 18th Homicide Surrenders, Alleged Shooter Still On The Run

Updated:
A Tulsa family says good bye after a senseless act of violence that took the life of a 20-year old man. Services were held Wednesday for Cody Holmes. He was shot and killed on Friday during a robbery attempt at a North side pawn shop. One of the suspects turned himself into police, but The News On 6’s Heather Lewin report the man who police say pulled the trigger is still on the run.

It was Marcel Frazier's grandmother who convinced the suspect in a fatal armed robbery attempt to turn himself in. Family members wouldn't talk on camera but say they were worried about Frazier's safety on the run, and that they're praying for the family of the victim.

Police briefly interviewed Frazier after his attorney brought him in.

"He confirmed that we are chasing the right folks, so that put us at ease that anything we've already done up to that point, we don't have to go back and do it again," said Tulsa Police Sergeant Dave Walker.

Walker says Frazier confessed he was there. A former employee said Frazier used to work at the pawn shop. Police say he's the one who punched Cody Holmes moments before the clerk was shot in the chest.

While police are glad to have Frazier in custody the case is far from over.

"Right now we're trying to actively get the shooter," Walker said.

Police suspect 17-year old Marquaillo Holbert pulled the trigger, turning back to fire the fatal shot as the three suspects were walking out of the store.

"You look at something as senseless as that, and that this man died, there was absolutely no indication that there was any need to shoot this individual,” said Walker. “These guys were just hell bent on violence and that's what they did."

Police say Holbert has family in Texas and may have gone there. He also has ties to Tulsa, so investigators are still looking for tips from the public. If you have seen Marquaillo Holbert, or know where he is at call Crimestoppers at 596-COPS. You can remain anonymous and could earn a cash reward.
