OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ Researchers at the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation have made a discovery that could lead to new treatments for Alzheimer's disease.

Doctor Jordan Tang says he and other researchers have found a molecular mechanism that links a specific gene to the onset of Alzheimer's.

Tang says the gene produces a lipoprotein which winds up in the brain and leads to the start of Alzheimer's.

The discovery could lead to development of a drug that would stop the lipoprotein from going to the brain.

The findings appear in today's issue of the Journal of Neuroscience.
