News On 6 Sports Director John Holcomb will be adding a little color to OSU basketball. Oklahoma State University and Host Communications announced on Thursday that John Holcomb is joining the Cowboy Basketball broadcast team as a color analyst for the upcoming 2007-2008 season.
“I am truly excited about this opportunity,†Holcomb said. “OSU Basketball has enjoyed a place among the nation's elite programs for years now, and the broadcast tradition has been second to none. To top it off, there's the excitement of calling games in the ‘Rowdiest Arena in the Country’ at Gallagher-Iba Arena.â€
Holcomb begins his third season as a color analyst on Cowboy football broadcasts this fall, but he’s been with OSU for the past six seasons as the play-by-play man for the Cowboy Sports Network basketball telecasts.
“Coaches Eddie and Sean Sutton and the rest of the OSU Basketball family took a chance on me six years ago because I hadn't called any basketball games in about 10 years,†said Holcomb. “But from day one, they made me feel at home. I can't wait to get to work with Dave Hunziker, Joe Riddle and the rest of the crew.â€
A graduate of Oklahoma Baptist University, Holcomb played basketball two years for the OBU Bison. He began his broadcasting career at KGFF-AM in Shawnee and served as the play-by-play man for OBU basketball radio broadcasts during the 1988-89 season. He moved to Sherman, Texas, in 1989 and was a weekend news anchor and news reporter at KXII-TV for two years. He then joined the staff at KSWO-TV in Lawton as the weekend sports anchor and served in that position until 1993. Following a two-year stint as the sports director at KFDA-TV in Amarillo, Texas, Holcomb returned to Oklahoma in November of 1995 and joined The News On 6 crew. He was promoted to sports director in October of 1999, and has been a co-host of the ‘Oklahoma Sports Blitz’, a Sunday night sports show broadcast statewide, since August of 2001.
