IRVING, Texas (AP) -- The Dallas Cowboys signed quarterback Richard Bartel -- who took part in the team's weekend mini-camp.

The Grapevine High School graduate played college ball for SMU and Tarleton State.

Bartel played in six games for the Mustangs, completing 89-148 passes for 1,078 yards -- with 8 touchdowns and 8 interceptions. He had 34 rushing yards on 28 attempts.

Bartel finished his college career at Tarleton State, hitting 161-276 passes for 2,023 yards and 16 touchdowns and 5 interceptions.

He also rushed 29 times for 34 yards and one score.
