Woman, Child Killed In I-40 Crash

Updated:
CLINTON, Okla. (AP) _ A woman and her child are killed today in a fiery crash along Interstate 40 near Clinton.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says the Missouri woman and her two children were eastbound in a Ford Explorer about 10 o'clock this morning when the vehicle left the road. Captain Chris West says the SUV then crossed into the westbound lanes and slammed head-on into an oncoming tractor trailer.

Both vehicles caught on fire, but West says the woman and a male child died from trauma. A girl in the vehicle was flown in critical condition to an Oklahoma City hospital.

The names and ages of the victims weren't immediately released.

West says the trucker wasn't seriously injured.

The patrol says both westbound lanes were closed for more than two hours, and traffic was diverted before it was reopened shortly after noon.
