SAGINAW, Mich. (AP) _ A man and five children were killed in a house fire early Thursday, authorities said.

Firefighters pulled all six victims out of the burning two-story home, but they were pronounced dead at a hospital, interim Fire Chief Lathel Wise said.

The mother of the children, who ranged in age from 1 to 13, safely exited the house, Wise said.

He did not know the relationship between the man and the children.

The fire was reported at 2:30 a.m. by a neighbor or a passer-by, Wise said. ``I didn't hear or see any smoke alarms,'' he said.

An investigation was under way.
