The excitement of the Belvedere unearthing has barely died down, and the buzz has begun regarding the next time capsule. This one will go into the ground on Statehood Day, November 16. The News On 6’s Rick Wells reports this time capsules contents is as limitless as your imagination.
Tulsarama was big, it was exciting, but can it be duplicated or even improved upon? Marnie Ducato is one of a group of folks from Tulsa's Young Professionals organization and the Junior League who are gonna try.
"Trying to find something to bury as cool as the Belvedere," said Marnie Ducato with Tulsa Young Professionals.
The Centennial Committee has asked the group to create the capsule which will be buried on Statehood Day, November 16, 2007.
"We've got lots of ideas," said Ducato.
They of course are looking for things that will tell folks 50 years from now a little more about us. Could be a car, the Belvedere was the first, but not the only car. There's a prototype of the Plymouth Prowler that was donated by Chrysler and encased in a capsule in 1998 to celebrate Tulsa's Centennial, so maybe the car thing's been done.
"We thought of maybe trying to bury a part of an airplane, a wing or a cockpit, to show aerospace is such a huge industry in Oklahoma," Ducato said.
She's sure the capsule will contain some of the personal electronics we all use to stay connected, iPods with a play list of current hits, a cell phone, a laptop.
"Digital camera with some pictures on there with a battery so they can actually see them," said Ducato.
There will be lots of other things, but they have just begun to discuss exactly what. They do know it will be buried in Veterans Park.
Ducato and the committee were careful observers of the Belvedere festivities.
"Did you learn anything?" asked News On 6 reporter Rick Wells.
"That a boat might be a good thing to bury," said Ducato.
She's kidding of course.
The group is looking for suggestions of items that should be included in this latest time capsule. If you have a suggestion you can e-mail the group at email@example.com
