NORMAN, Okla. (AP) _ The University of Oklahoma Post Office is offering a new Sickle Cell Disease Awareness stamp to encourage early testing and development of a cure.

Officials hope the new 37-cent stamp will increase public knowledge of the disease. The stamp was unveiled at the university post office yesterday.

One in 12 African-Americans will develop the disease that transforms normal red blood cells into sickle-shaped cells that can damage organs and block blood flow.
