ALTUS, Okla. (AP) _ A southwest Oklahoma development corporation is hiring a former Air Force colonel to help promote the area.

Geno Redmon will be director of the Altus/Southwest Area Economic Development Corporation.

Redmon was assigned to Altus Air Force Base from 1997 to 2000 and says he will work to keep Altus Air Force Base open. He says he'll take to the Department of Defense the message that the base is a priceless asset.

The base is one of five military installations in Oklahoma to be reviewed by the Base Realignment and Closure Committee.

Redmon says he also will work to keep industries in southwestern Oklahoma, work with the growing winery industry and try to increase the dairy industry in the area.
